From Programmer to Poet

The Man Behind the Musings

My story isn’t a straight line—it’s more of a scenic route with a few interesting detours.

I grew up in the Upper Midwest, just a little too late for the Sixties but close enough to feel its vibrant, psychedelic echo. That feeling never quite left, shaping my love for stylistic verve, playfulness, and the kind of language that conjures entire worlds.

For years, my daytime career was rooted in logic and order as a computer programmer and technical writer. I built systems and explained complex software, finding a strange sort of poetry in the precision of code. It taught me discipline and structure, but the call to more creative storytelling was always there, humming in the background.

Eventually, the characters in my head got louder than the hum of the servers. I began channeling that energy into prose, fiction, and poetry. My work found homes in literary magazines like The Underground Rag Mag and Slick Press, and I was honored to be a winner of the Santa Cruz Good Times entertainment weekly’s short story contest.

Today, I write to bridge those two worlds. The Psychedelic Slacker is a nod to my coming-of-age, while Strawberry Fairchild And The Green Flame is a direct line to the enchanting, magical fables I love.

Whether I’m writing about a wayward youth or a mermaid’s quest, my goal is the same: to create stories that speak to the heart and soul, with a love of language that I hope is contagious.

Thank you for being here.
